Department has 200 beds, three Operation Theatres, a Surgical Intensive care Unit, Burns Ward, a separate Trauma care Centre and an independent Urology Unit are at its disposal. Services of a Neurosurgeon and a Plastic Surgeon have been added recently. Apart from routine surgeries, the Department is especially active in the fields of Surgical Oncology, Laparoscopic Surgeries, Endo-Urology and Gastro-intestinal Endoscopies.

The real concentration of the Department is in training UG and PG students. More weightage is given to perfecting the surgical skills. The Post Graduate training is well streamlined on the lines of Residency programs. PGs are encouraged to prepare Case Reports, produce Scientific Papers, and participate in academic pursuits like Workshops, Seminars, and Conferences etc. The Department makes its presence felt on any of these platforms by presenting at least 4-5 papers. The Department itself hosted a State-Level Surgery Conference.

Around 20 surgeons are already produced by this Department, some of them have joined super specialty courses and some are working as faculty members in the Department itself.
