The
Department has separate Laboratories for different types of
experiments that are carried out. Thus we have:
• Histopathology Laboratory
Wherein tissues removed from different organs of the human
body are studied.
• Cytology Laboratory
Cells from different parts of the body are studied. FNAC
(Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy) is a technique of studying
cells removed by just a needle prick. This would often avoid
an operative procedure.

• Hematology & Clinical Pathology Laboratory
This is part of the service that the Department provides to
the hospital and is open 24 hours. Equipped with an
Autoanalyser & a Coagulometer this section provides accurate
& quick test reports of routine investigations.
• Frozen Section Laboratory
Attached to the Operation Theatre Complex this section of
the Department provides Histopathology Reports on the fly:
reporting as surgery is proceeding. This would enable the
surgeon take quick decisions on the table
The
Department also runs a full-fledged Blood Bank catering to
the needs of the Hospital. All the transfusions are
routinely screened for HIV, Hepatitis B & C and other
transmissible diseases.
In Under graduate teaching the faculty believes in small
group teaching. Thus even Histopathological slides are
demonstrated to the students through closed circuit TVs
where in a faculty member demonstrates and discusses each
slide to a group of just 4-5 students.
