Department has got three full-fledged units with total 90 beds. Nearly eleven qualified faculty is working in the department.

Postgraduate courses in M.S. (Ortho) and D Ortho have been started in the Department since Jan 1997. Every year intake is two M.S. Ortho and four D. Ortho candidates. Both M.S. Ortho and D. Ortho courses of Department are recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI).

The department is quite active in conducting academic activities. Since 1990 department has conducted six workshops with Live Demonstrations of Orthopedic Surgeries. Faculty of national reputation has participated in these programs. The department has organized three days State Conference of Karnataka Orthopedic Association during 1st, 2nd and 3rd of Feb, 2002. Dr. O.B. Pattanashetty, Prof. and HOD has served as President of Karnataka Orthopedic Association for the year 2001-2002. He was also the co-author of the article, Bone & joint Bruellosis in The Journal of Clinical Microbiology in 1995.

The department has got well equipped Physiotherapy and Artificial Limb Centre. The Artificial Limb Centre caters the needs of entire north Karnataka and adjoining Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
