Department of Ophthalmology was established in the year 1987.

To start with out patients were treated with the available equipments like,Auto refractometer, Slit lampetc.Refraction was undertaken .

In the year 1988 surgical work was started. Mainly  simple cataract surgeries were undertaken .

In the year 1988 November department  hosted state Ophthalmic conference

In the year 1990 IOL  workshop was conducted and subsequently IOL surgeries was undertaken routinely. Lateron department gradually updated to the latest equipments like,imported operating microscope ( Carl-Zeis), Hydraulic operating table and independent air condition operation theatre.

In the year 2002  workshop on Small incision cataract surgery was held and subsequently Small incision cataract surgeries were undertaken routinely .

In the year 2002  department further updated  to new equipments like,Diode Laser,fundus

Flourescin angiogram,Yag Laser,Automated perimeter etc.

In the year 2004 camps surgeries were undertaken.

In the year 2005 Retina and Glaucoma clinics were started .

In the year 2005 Post Graduation degree in M.S Ophthalmology  was started.

In the year 2007 department further upgraded  with Phaco emulsification machine (Aertli) for cataract surgeries.Staff of the department were underwent training in Phaco emulsification  at Hyderabad and subsequently routine Phaco emulsifiacation surgeries are being done.

In the year 2008 Squint clinic,Neuro Ophthalmology clinic and Oculoplasty clinics were started.

In the year 2009 department started Diabetic retinopathy screening clinic  on every Thursday .
